Social Media Content Ideas for Authors — February

One month into the new year already! Now that we’ve rested and found our footing, it’s time to tackle some content marketing for writers surrounding the month of February. It’s the perfect time for writers to lean into the romantic vibes of this month or give into the last hurrah of coziness as we get closer to spring. February presents a golden opportunity to strategically align your content with the season, tapping into the themes that resonate most with your readers and audience.

I’ve gathered together a great selection of content marketing ideas for writers, including many from my 2024 Romance Author Social Media bundle, which is still available in my shop (use code WSCBLOG for get $5 off!). So, buckle up, fellow wordsmiths, as we navigate the terrain of social media marketing for the month of February.

Book Reading ASMR: Turn pages or sip tea etc for an immersive video. While this doesn’t technically tie into your book, it does help your account get exposure from shares. People especially love these aesthetic videos on Instagram.

Valentine’s Day (Feb 14th): Ah, the day of romance and love. The pinnacle day for all romance authors. Use this day however you wish to draw attention to your romance books. Or you could make a post around something like “4 ways the romance genre changed my life.” (Need help with your promo? I have a set of ready-made V-Day Canva templates just waiting for you!)

Black History Month: Share your fave Black novels and authors, or share your TBR of nonfiction books on social justice you plan to read this month. (There’s also Black Lives Matter Day on Feb 26th.)

Extraterrestrial Culture Day (Feb 13th): Writer of alien-fueled sci-fi? Today is your day! Talk about the alien races in your book(s) or simply talk about your favorite alien myths, legends, and conspiracies.

Library Lovers Month: Film a “come with me to the library” video and share it with your audience. Or take a photo of your library TBR haul and post it. (There’s also Library Lovers’ Day on Feb 14th.)

Wins: Post a selfie and something you accomplished recently—big or small. This is a great engagement booster.

Morning chit-chat: Have coffee or tea with your readers in your Stories to start your week. Reader love personal moments like these. It makes them feel closer to you.

Scratch that Id: Post your fave tropes and ask readers to comment theirs. What are the tropes, themes, or types of scenes you can’t live without in a book?

Super Bowl: Football romance writers, this is for you. Don’t let this event pass by without milking the marketing surrounding it. (Also works for writers who have high school or college football stories.)

Work Naked Day (Feb 2nd): Highlight a steamy office romance scene through an excerpt or a reel.
